With the gargantuan success of the Baahubali franchise all over the country, the stardom of Prabhas hit a crowning point. This resulted in massive buzz on his next projects. All films after Baahubali 2 capitalised on his pan-India stardom and did phenomenal pre-release business in all territories. Unfortunately, these films failed to live up to the high expectations and ended as debacles.
His latest offering Adipurush completed a hat-trick of flops after Baahubali. But, these flops seem to have not impacted his market because his upcoming film Salaar is creating ripples in trade circles. Despite Prabhas’s low run, the pre-release business of Salaar is likely to set new milestones. The makers are quoting astronomical prices for the film’s area-wise theatrical rights in Telugu States and Overseas. It is reportedly heard that Salaar is likely to set a non-Baahubali record in terms of its pre-release business in South India.
True that Prashanth Neel is one of the reasons why Salaar is generating unprecedented hysteria everywhere, but buyers are betting big on brand Prabhas. They are confident that Salaar will wreak havoc at the pan-India level because of the terrific hype generated after the release of the first look teaser.
Even though Saaho and Adipurush tanked heavily at the box office, they performed beyond expectations in some territories. Moreover, they notched up solid numbers despite the poor word of mouth. So, trade is optimistic that Salaar with decent talk can create a storm at the box office. They are hoping that Neel’s commercial elements will cater to the masses and result in a strong run after the film’s release on September 28th.
So, despite delivering back-to-back box office turkeys, Prabhas is still the numero uno in terms of trade biz.
