On Sunday, the Delhi Police initiated legal action by filing an FIR concerning the dissemination of a manipulated video featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech on social media platforms, following a complaint from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Special Cell has registered the FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
In the video, Shah is depicted advocating for the elimination of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. The complaint, filed by Sinku Sharan Singh, DC of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), highlights the circulation of altered videos on social media platforms with the alleged intent of inciting discord among communities, posing a threat to public tranquility and order.
