A significant development has unfolded in the Delhi liquor policy case. The Rouse Avenue special court in Delhi has granted permission to the CBI to interrogate BRS MLC Kavitha. The CBI had filed a petition seeking permission to question Kavitha in Tihar jail, where she is currently held in judicial custody. The court directed the jail authorities to be informed a day in advance of the interrogation, stipulating the presence of women constables during questioning and adherence to all procedural rules. Kavitha’s statement will be recorded by the CBI during the interrogation.
Previously, in December last year, Kavitha was interrogated by the CBI for three days at her residence in Hyderabad. The CBI is expected to resume interrogation next week, leveraging her earlier statement, information from an approver, and inputs from other accused individuals. Following this interrogation, the CBI may file another chargesheet to further its investigation.
The CBI initiated the case based on directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), alleging irregularities in the Delhi liquor case involving the favoring of private entities in the liquor policy. Allegations include the purported exchange of Rs 100 crore with the Aam Aadmi Party.
