Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor, was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday night. The ED initiated searches at his residence earlier in the evening, pursuant to a search warrant, and subsequently conducted an interrogation, leading to his arrest after a two-hour session. Kejriwal’s wife was notified of his arrest, and he is expected to be transported to the ED office imminently. Tomorrow, he will appear before The Rouse Avenue Court. Meanwhile, a sizable gathering of AAP leaders and activists has assembled outside his residence in protest.
Prior to Kejriwal’s arrest, Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel made noteworthy comments, asserting that even in the event of Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED, he would not step down from his position as chief minister. Goel alleged that the central government was attempting to stifle Kejriwal’s voice ahead of the elections. Earlier in the evening, he affirmed that if detained, Kejriwal would emerge from jail and continue to lead Delhi.
