New Delhi: Amidst a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in India, concerns are mounting as 166 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, marking a significant uptick after a prolonged period of lower daily averages. Kerala recorded the highest number of new cases, contributing to a total of 895 active cases nationwide, according to the Union Health Ministry.
The recent surge contrasts with the previous daily average of 100 cases, prompting the Center to attribute the increase to influenza-like viruses, exacerbated by the winter season. Tragically, a woman succumbed to COVID-19 at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla.
Notably, India witnessed a decline in COVID-19 cases in July, reporting only 24 new cases on July 24, 2023, signaling a lull in the pandemic’s intensity. However, the sudden rise in cases has raised alarms at the Centre, prompting authorities to issue advisories to healthcare professionals, urging heightened precautions to combat the resurgence.
