Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials that the responsibility of installing and maintaining street lights in all villages should be entrusted to the Sarpanchs. He has instructed the Panchayat Raj department officials to conduct a thorough assessment of whether the LED lights already available in the villages are working or not and how many new ones are needed, and to conduct a poll survey.
CM Revanth Reddy held a review meeting with Municipal, Panchayat Raj and GHMC officials at the Command Control Center in Banjara Hills. In addition to working at night, there should be supervision to ensure that LED lights are not misused during the day, and that the dashboard of LEDs in all villages should be monitored by the MPDO at the mandal level, and that these responsibilities should be assigned to Additional Collectors in the district.
Officials explained to the CM that there are 16.16 lakh LED lights in all the villages of the state, and the LED lights are under the contract agency in Warangal, Nalgonda, Jangaon and Narayanpet districts. The Chief Minister ordered all the LED lights in the state with the Command Control Center in Hyderabad.
The Municipal Department informed the CM that there are 5.50 lakh LED lights under the GHMC limits, and if the core urban city inside the Outer Ring Road is also included, a total of 7.50 lakh lights will be required. The Chief Minister instructed the officials to call tenders for the installation and maintenance of new LED lights.
The CM suggested inviting companies known for manufacturing LED lights, handing over the management responsibilities to the companies for seven years, and formulating tender rules to ensure that the management is on-site.
He said that there should be a special system to establish control boxes along with LED lights, whether they are working continuously or not, and to know in which areas there are problems. CM Revanth Reddy suggested getting a third-party audit done by institutions like IIT Hyderabad.
