As expected, Megastar Chiranjeevi’s 156th film, which was supposed to be a remake of Malayalam family entertainer Bro Daddy, has been shelved during the pre-production phase. Reportedly, the makers decided not to go ahead with the idea because Chiru is not willing to work on remakes anymore after the disappointing result of Bholaa Shankar, a remake of Vedhalam.
Chiru 156 has been in the news for the last six months. Kalyan Krishna of Banggaraju fame is the forerunner to helm this remake. The pre-production activities also kicked off a few months ago. An official announcement about the project was also made on Chiru’s birthday. However, it is now called off as Chiru didn’t seem interested after his last offering received huge flak from his fans and common audiences.
Chiru’s daughter Sushmitha Konidela was supposed to bankroll this project. Sources revealed that Chiru promised another film for the banner and asked her to settle the payments to the writers and director who have been working on the script.
Meanwhile, Chiru’s 157th film under the direction of Mallidi Vasistha will henceforth be the 156th project. The regular shooting will commence towards the end of this year. It is a socio-fantasy thriller that will be made on a staggering budget. UV Creations will produce it.
