Chandrababu’s Return Sparks Revival Of Amaravati Capital Dream

Monday, November 4, 2024

Chandrababu Naidu’s return to power in Andhra Pradesh has reignited hopes for developing Amaravati as the state’s capital, a project he envisioned to model after Singapore, spanning 217 square kilometers. This vision took shape in 2015, with Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stone marked by symbolic gestures like bringing water from the Yamuna River and soil from the Parliament building.

However, progress halted in 2019 when Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party proposed a three-capital plan, designating Amaravati as the ‘Legislative Capital’ and stopping ongoing construction, causing distress to local farmers and a drop in real estate prices. With the Telugu Desam Party back in power, there is renewed hope for the revival of the Amaravati project, potentially reversing the region’s economic downturn.
