NewDelhi: The issue of SC categorization has gained prominence over the years, with a key argument asserting that a specific segment of the SCs disproportionately benefits from reservation policies. Advocating for SC categorization, the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MMPS) has persistently fought for this cause in the Telugu states for the past three decades.
Responding to the heightened demand for SC categorization, the Central government has taken a significant step. A pivotal decision has been made to establish a five-member committee tasked with studying and gathering opinions on SC categorization. The committee, headed by Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, includes members from the Ministries of Home Affairs, Law, and Tribal Affairs. The committee is slated to convene on January 22, and the Centre has explicitly instructed it to expedite the process and submit a report promptly.
