Hyderabad: The Congress government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday decided to reduce the security cover previously provided to Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. For the past nine and a half years, KCR had been enjoying Z-category security, a privilege granted to the chief minister of a state, considering the threat perception from extremists and other anti-social elements. Given that he is no longer the chief minister, the security and intelligence department has recommended a downgrade to Y category.
Consequently, KCR will now have eight security personnel in two shifts, with four personnel in each shift. Additionally, he will be provided with an escort vehicle and two sentries stationed in front of his residence. The Z-category, which is the country’s third-highest level of security protection, includes 22 personnel, along with commandos and police personnel. In contrast, the Y category security cover comprises eight to 11 personnel, including a couple of commandos, and two personal security officers.
