Though the substandard teasers and songs failed to create strong hype, the presence of Pawan Kalyan in a special character turned out to be the major attraction for Bro, which is the remake of Tamil blockbuster fantasy comedy ‘Vinodhaya Saitham’. The film is releasing all over this Friday with a decent buzz because it has the backing of Trivikram Srinivas who penned the dialogues and screenplay.
Going by the Twitter talk after the completion of premiere shows in North America, Bro is a Soulless Remake that falls short of the expectations. The first half is executed well but the narration falters in the second half to make it a mediocre watch. Pawan Kalyan’s presence is the only saving factor for the film because there is nothing much to rave about dialogues, music, VFX and other technical aspects which are required to elevate the viewing experience of the audience.
The makers tried to overcompensate the changes in the script and infused needless histrionics which killed the soul of the main plot. There are plenty of elevation scenes aimed at projecting Pawan Kalyan as a demigod but beyond a certain point they appear to be an overdose and fail to connect with the viewers.
Though some scenes cater to Pawan’s fans, the rest of the film falls flat due to lackluster narration and over-the-top dialogues. Pawan’s energetic performance is well complemented by Sai Tej’s decent acting. But, the story lacks the strong emotional depth which was the major highlight of the original film. The remaining actors get a raw deal.
Trivikram’s magic didn’t work much except for a few sparks here and there. Many songs from Pawan’s past films find references throughout the film to keep his fans interested. But, that is not sufficient to make it a good watch for all sections of moviegoers. The crisp runtime and some entertaining episodes in the first half are the only positives for this film.
