This week, Nikhil Siddhartha’s pan-India thriller ‘Spy’ and Sree Vishnu’s comedy caper Samajavaragamana were released with good expectations because of promising teasers and trailers.
As expected, both films took an impressive opening at the box office with solid numbers on the first day. While Spy handed over the career-best opening for Nikhil with close to 10 Crores gross worldwide, Samajavaragamana notched up around 2.9 Crores gross, which is a great start considering Sree Vishnu’s market and the non-season release.
Spy will need to collect more than 17 Crores to put its buyers in the safe zone. Despite weak reviews and discouraging word of mouth due to a lousy script and uninteresting narration, the film managed to pull in strong numbers on the first day. It will need a promising first weekend to be termed as a bit venture.
Samajavaragamana garnered unanimous reports from all quarters. The comedy elements clicked well and generated positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. The film should gain momentum over the weekend to emerge as a super hit at the box office.
