Cinema halls draw huge crowds during festival seasons. Irrespective of the verdict, moviegoers throng theatres with families to watch big-ticket films. This is the reason why filmmakers prefer festivals to release their films. Among all seasons, Sankranti is usually the most productive one due to the extended holidays and the festive mood among audiences.
This Sankranti is going to be massive for South Cinema because four big-budget films are releasing in a short span. In Telugu, seasoned actors Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna are vying with their much-awaited films Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy. Both these commercial entertainers are carrying high expectations in trade circles and the inside reports are very promising. The impressive promotional content with teasers, songs, and trailers struck a chord with the moviegoers and generated terrific hype for both these films. The advance sales in USA, Australia and other overseas territories are quite promising. Both films are going neck and neck with respect to bookings. The domestic numbers are also going to be mind-blowing.
Tamil superstars Vijay and Ajith are also in the fray this Pongal. The box office arch-rivals are competing during the festival season for the first time after 8 years and there are huge expectations for both these films. While Vijay’s bilingual Varisu suffered an early blow in the form of postponement of the Telugu version to the 14th, Ajith’s Thunivu is all set for a big opening in Tamil Nadu and Telugu States. Varisu will also take a phenomenal opening in Tamil Nadu as Vijay is the biggest box office star there. In overseas, Thunivu is ahead of Varisu in many major territories.
On the whole, Sankranti 2023 is going to be a lucrative season for trade circles of both Tollywood and Kollywood. If all these four films receive good word of mouth, there are likely to storm the box office for the next two weeks.
