After the Delhi assembly elections, the BJP is focusing on the change of leadership in two Telugu states and likely new state presidents to be announced during the next couple of days. BJP MP and AP president D Purandeswari has received a call from party high-command asking her to be available in Delhi for consultations.
As the appointment of new presidents in both the Telugu states was delayed as the national leadership was busy with Delhi polls and other by-elections, party sources said that now the stage is set for a change in the party leadership in these two states.
Though Purandeswari is keen to continue as state president, stating that she was made as state party chief in the middle, she is requesting to allow her to continue in this position. Though she is keen to get a place in the union cabinet, after realizing that there are now such possibilities as of now, she is trying her best to continue in the present position.
However, the national party leadership is said to be having its own strategy with regard to Andhra Pradesh. It is more focusing on Jana Sena chief and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, with an idea to contest all seats in 2029 polls in alliance with Jana Sena. In order to increase its social base they have decided a plan to focus on some other options.
Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear during his state tour that the party should be institutionally strengthened at the field level. He directed that the assistance being provided by the Center to AP should be made public. After 2014, party central leadership said to be unhappy that no state president succeeded in expanding the party base or attracting new social groups into the party.
While continuing its alliance with TDP, the BJP has decided to go ahead with its own strategies with regard to strengthening the party at grassroots. Particularly in attracting leaders from other parties, mostly from the opposition YSRCP, the state leadership is hesitating to allow it due to objections from the TDP leadership.
Some leaders from the YSRCP in Visakhapatnam and Godavari districts have made efforts to join the BJP. However, their joining has been stopped due to objections from the TDP. It is reported that Delhi leaders have expressed impatience as to why other parties are objecting to joining the BJP? After the appointment of a new state president, Purandeswari is likely to be accommodated into the national executive. She was national general secretary before appointing as state president.
