Amidst ongoing post-poll turmoil in Andhra Pradesh, a candidate from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) contesting in the Chandragiri Assembly constituency sustained injuries following an assault by a group of assailants in Tirupati on Tuesday.

The TDP swiftly pointed fingers at the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) for orchestrating the attack, allegedly carried out by an armed mob. The incident unfolded as the TDP candidate, Pulivarti Venkata Mani Prasad, commonly known as Pulivarti Nani, was returning from a visit to the strong room at Padmavathi Mahila University. Nani and his security personnel were injured in the assault, prompting immediate medical attention.

The assault prompted tensions in the vicinity, with aggrieved TDP supporters staging a protest, demanding accountability for the attack. Additionally, they retaliated by targeting a car adorned with YSRCP flags. Law enforcement intervened to disperse the crowd near the strong room, where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were secured post-polling. Superintendent of Police Krishnakanth Patel confirmed Nani’s safety and stated that an investigation is underway, with Nani providing crucial information regarding the attackers.
