Bengaluru: Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa faces legal trouble as an arrest warrant has been issued against him in a case involving alleged mismanagement of employees’ provident fund (PF) contributions. Uthappa, serving as the director of Centarus Lifestyle Brands Private Limited, is accused of failing to deposit ₹23.36 lakh in employees’ PF accounts despite deducting the amount from their salaries.

Regional Provident Fund Commissioner Sadakshari Gopal Reddy revealed that the company deducted PF amounts but did not transfer them to employees’ accounts. In response, the warrant was issued on December 4. Uthappa has been granted until December 27 to settle the dues, failing which he will face arrest.

The 39-year-old former cricketer played 59 international matches for India, amassing 1,183 runs, including seven half-centuries. He also earned acclaim as a key player in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The case highlights significant concerns regarding corporate compliance with employee welfare laws. Further developments are awaited.
