Renowned music composer AR Rahman has issued a legal notice to social and mainstream media platforms, demanding the removal of defamatory content regarding his personal life and recent divorce. Through his lawyer, Narmada Sampath, Rahman has warned that failure to delete such content within 24 hours will result in a defamation lawsuit under Section 356 of the Indian Penal Code.
Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, recently announced their divorce by mutual consent. The news was initially revealed by Saira Banu’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, and later confirmed by Rahman in a joint statement. The couple described the decision as a “tough phase” and stated that they announced it officially to inform their fans and well-wishers. They also emphasized that the decision was made with great difficulty and requested privacy during this time.
Despite their appeal, certain media outlets and social media platforms have been accused of spreading false and misleading information. The legal notice explicitly demands the removal of all defamatory posts, videos, and articles from platforms such as YouTube, Twitter (X), Facebook, Instagram, and other online and news media channels.
