Monday, July 1, 2024

VIJAYAWADA: The Speaker of Andhra Pradesh, Thammineni Seetharam, has scheduled a meeting for YSRCP and TDP MLAs who have switched parties in the State over the last four-and-a-half years. The meeting is set for January 29, 2024, and orders have been issued instructing the concerned MLAs to attend the meeting at the Speaker’s office. The notice explicitly states that action will be taken against those who fail to participate in the scheduled meeting.

Earlier this week, notices were dispatched to eight MLAs, and it has been reported that the Legislative Council chairman has also sent notices to two MLCs. Among the YSRCP rebel MLAs who received notices are Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy, Undavalli Sridevi, Anam Ramanarayan Reddy, and Kotam Reddy Sridhar Reddy, who joined the TDP. Additionally, TDP rebel MLAs Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Karanam Balaram, Vasupalli Ganesh, and Maddali Giridhar, who switched to the YSRCP, were also served notices.

The defected MLAs have been given seven days to submit their explanations regarding their party-switching decisions. Failure to provide valid reasons within the stipulated time could result in their disqualification from the Assembly membership.
