Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the anticipatory bail granted to former Gannavaram MLA and YSRCP leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi in connection with an illegal mining case. The government has directed the special officer at the Advocate-on-Record (AoR) office to initiate necessary legal proceedings. Orders to this effect were issued by Chief Secretary (Home) Kumar Viswajeet on Saturday.

The case pertains to alleged illegal mining activities carried out by Vamsi and his associates in Vijayawada Rural, Bapulapadu, and Gannavaram mandals during the previous YSRCP regime, which reportedly caused a loss of ₹195 crore to the state exchequer. The Vigilance and Enforcement Department had flagged the violations, leading to an FIR being filed by Gannavaram police on May 14, based on a complaint from the district mining officer. Vamsi approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail, which was granted by Justice Harinath on May 29. Citing the opinion of the state public prosecutor, the government has now opted to contest the High Court order before the apex court.
