Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has now officially confirmed that he has moved out of Mumbai and relocated to the South.
Back in December, he had hinted at his plans to leave Mumbai and to settle down in the South. Making it true, the filmmaker has revealed in a recent conversation with The Hindu that he has left Mumbai and called the Bollywood industry “Toxic.” A source said that Anurag Kashyap has moved to Bangalore, seeking distance from the Hindi film fraternity.
A source indicated that Kashyap has chosen Bangalore as his new home, seeking distance from the Hindi film fraternity. In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the 52-year-old filmmaker voiced his frustration with the industry, lamenting how financial concerns often overshadow creative freedom.
In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, he said, “It’s difficult for me to go out and experiment. Because now, it comes at a cost, which makes my producers start thinking about profit. They’re like, “Where are my margins? I’m losing money.” I’m like, “You don’t want to make this movie? Don’t make this movie. But I just cannot.” Because right from the beginning, before the film starts, it becomes about “How do we sell it?” so the joy of filmmaking is sucked out. That’s why I want to move out. Literally, next year, I’m moving out of Mumbai.”
The 52-year-old filmmaker expressed his frustration and disappointment with his own industry, stating, “I’m so disappointed by my own industry and not just disappointed, disgusted by the mindset that’s here.” He also added, “I want to stay away from film people. The industry has become too toxic. Everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make the next 5– or 800 crore film. The creative atmosphere is gone.
Currently, Kashyap is promoting the Malayalam thriller Footage, set to release in Hindi on March 7, 2025. He will be seen as a cop in the Telugu film ‘Dacoit,’ with Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles.
