From a long time, most of the Tamil directors are unable to gauge the pulse of Telugu moviegoers. Their success rate has been very dismal in the last two decades in particular. Despite their poor track record, Telugu stars have always encouraged Tamil directors. But, the directors failed to live up to the expectations. The latest example is noted filmmaker Venkat Prabhu who helmed Naga Chaitanya’s Custody.
Custody reeks of Tamil flavour in every frame from the very first shot. The story, characters, screenplay, and everything else in the film have the potential to work well with Tamil audiences if it was made with a Tamil actor. As Naga Chaitanya doesn’t command a good market and following in Tamil Nadu, the film failed to garner any attention there. Whereas, Telugu audiences couldn’t connect with the content-oriented narration and the mix of conflict and humour.
Like Murugadoss ( Spyder) and Linguswamy ( The Warrior), Venkat Prabhu couldn’t cater to the needs of Telugu moviegoers. He will join the list of directors who tasted huge debacles in Telugu. The flop streak of Tamil directors sees another new addition with Custody. Up next, we have Samutrakani (Pawan – Sai Dharam Tej film) and Shankar ( Game Changer) testing their luck with Telugu heroes.
Another Tamil director fails to catch the pulse
