CCPA Issues to Amazon Over ‘Sri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad’ Sales

New Delhi: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to Amazon, accusing the e-commerce giant of deceptive trade practices for selling sweets falsely labeled as ‘Sri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.’ The complaint, filed by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), alleges that Amazon misleads consumers by marketing these products as offerings from the upcoming consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The CCPA has demanded a response within seven days and warned of potential action under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Amazon is under scrutiny for various sweets and food products listed as “Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad,” with product descriptions like ‘Raghupati Ghee Ladoo’ and ‘Desi Cow Milk Peda.’ The CCPA contends that such misleading representations influence consumers to make purchasing decisions based on false attributes. Amazon asserts it is taking appropriate action in response to the allegations. The incident underscores the need for transparency and accuracy in product representations to protect consumers from deceptive marketing practices.
