Bollywood star Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan starrer biographical drama ‘Sarfira’ is all set to debut on an OTT platform. Helmed by Sudha Kongara, the film is a Hindi adaptation of Tamil actor Suriya’s blockbuster film ‘Soorarai Pottru’, originally also directed by Sudha.
“Sarfira” is based on the real-life story of GR Gopinath, the visionary behind India’s first low-cost airline. The film initially hit theaters on July 12, 2024, and will now be available for streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar starting October 11, 2024.
Making it an official announcement today, Akshay Kumar and popular streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar shared a video on their Instagram handles, unveiling the Ott release date. The announcement video featured a message from Akshay Kumar in Hindi, which translates, “To dream of the sky, you don’t need anyone’s permission on the ground. This is the story of an ordinary man whose dream was to make air travel possible for every common person.
He continued, “The world tried hard to stop him, discouraged him from spreading his wings, and even called him crazy. But he didn’t stop, because a ‘madman’ is the one who breaks the rules set by the world. And the true story of such a madman is coming to touch your heart.”
Along with the video, they captioned, “Watch the dreams of a common man soar in #Sarfira, Streaming from October 11th only on DisneyPlus Hotstar.”
Jointly backed by Aruna Bhatia and Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment, Jyothika and Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, and Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good’, the film also stars Paresh Rawal, Seema Biswas, Sarath Kumar, and others in significant roles.
