Popular Tollywood actor Sarath Babu, aged 72, passed away on Monday morning in Hyderabad. He has been suffering from age-related health ailments for the past few months and was treated at AIG hospital in the city. A few days back, rumours surfaced on social media that Sarath Babu breathed his last. However, his family members quashed the rumours and said he was undergoing treatment for his health condition.
Sources revealed that his health condition further deteriorated on Sunday evening and doctors declared him dead a few minutes ago. Sarath Babu was born in Amudalavalasa of Srikakulam district in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. He dreamt of becoming an IPS officer but destiny had other plans as he made his way into the silver screen. He made his acting debut in 1973 with a film titled Rama Rajya. After this film, Sarath Babu got substantial roles with negative shades. He acted as both lead actor and antagonist in many big-ticket films. He appeared in notable films like Maro Charithra, Guppedu Manasu, Seethakoka Chilaka, Anveshana, Sitara, 47 Rojulu, Swathi Mutyam, Sagara Sangamam, etc.
Sathyam Babu Dixithulu was his original name. He acted predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages in over 225 films. He won 8 Nandi awards for his immaculate performance as a reliable character artist. He was last seen in Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Sahab in a brief role. He shared screen space with many notable actors of the current generation.
Sarath Babu married Telugu character artist Rama Prabha. But, he later divorced her due to some personal reasons. His last film Malli Pelli is yet to hit the screens. The last rites of Sarath Babu will be held in Chennai.
