Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has responded to criticism surrounding a viral photograph of him with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, clarifying that the image was taken several years ago and has no connection to current geopolitical developments. In a recent interview, Aamir addressed the controversy and expressed disappointment over Turkey’s recent conduct.
“Turkey’s current stance is unacceptable. Every Indian is understandably angry,” said Aamir. “Back then, when Turkey was struck by a massive earthquake, India was one of the first nations to extend aid. It is disappointing to see how the relationship has shifted.”
He further explained that the photo with President Erdogan was taken in 2017 during an official visit. “As an actor, I represent India abroad and often meet with international dignitaries. The photograph being used now to target me was taken long before Turkey’s present actions. How could I have predicted such developments?” he questioned.
The image has led to calls from a section of social media users to boycott his critically acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par. Aamir, known for his low-key and emotional persona, said he remains committed to upholding the values of responsible representation as a public figure.
