Delhi Police Arrest Youth Congress President Over Protest Incident

Delhi Police have taken Indian Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib into custody. His arrest connects to a demonstration at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam venue on February 20.

Growing List of Arrests

Chib was questioned by investigators before his formal arrest on Monday. This brings the total number of people detained over the protest to eight individuals.

Three others arrested alongside Chib include Jitendra Yadav (IYC national coordinator from Gwalior), Raja Gujar (IYC Gwalior district president), and Vimal Ajay Kumar (an IYC office-bearer from Bhind). These arrests follow four earlier detentions linked to the same case.

The Bharat Mandapam Protest

The incident occurred around lunchtime during a major AI summit at Bharat Mandapam’s AI Impact Expo. According to police reports, protesters used legitimate online registrations and QR codes to access the venue.

Inside the Demonstration

After entering the exhibition hall, the group removed sweaters and jackets worn over their t-shirts. Police state they staged a shirtless protest while shouting slogans and displaying t-shirts with political messages targeting India’s Prime Minister.

Circulating videos show protesters revealing anti-government text on their shirts before security personnel escorted them out. Some footage captures attendees and guards pushing demonstrators toward exits during the disruption.

Political Fallout

Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly condemned the protest, calling it “Gandi Aur Nangi Rajneeti” (dirty and naked politics) and criticizing the Congress party over the shirtless demonstration during the international summit.
