BRS Party Faces Tough Times
The Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is struggling after major election losses. After losing power in Telangana last year, their rough patch continued in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Out of Telangana’s 17 seats, BRS didn’t win any—BJP took eight and AIMIM got one.
Rajya Sabha Strength Shrinks
BRS now relies on the Rajya Sabha for national presence. They currently have four MPs there, but one—Suresh Reddy—retired in April 2024. This drops them to just three members in the upper house.
Who’s Left in Rajya Sabha?
Vaddhiraju Ravichandra stays till April 2030. B. Parthasaradhi Reddy and D. Damodara Rao will remain until June 2028. These three become BRS’s sole national voice.
Congress Gets a Boost
Congress benefits from BRS’s slide. They already had three Rajya Sabha members from Telangana. With Suresh Reddy’s vacant seat plus another opening, Congress can now claim four of Telangana’s seven Rajya Sabha spots—leaving BRS with three.
National Dreams Fade
BRS once aimed big—changing its name and planning a national expansion. They hoped smaller parties like theirs would gain importance if the 2024 elections created a coalition government. Instead, losing Telangana, plus zero Lok Sabha seats and shrinking Rajya Sabha numbers, dims their national influence significantly.
