Starring Suhas and Shivani Nagaram in the lead roles and leading actor Naresh in a crucial role, Hey Balwanth (originally Hey Bhagawan) hit theaters today. The film's innovative promotional measures caused a huge stir. We'll find out whether they led to a satisfactory viewing experience in the following review.
Story:
Krishna (played by Suhas) is a young man who has dreamed all his life of inheriting his father's business and holds his father Rao Balwanth (played by VK Naresh) in high esteem. Balwanth keeps the exact nature of his profession secret from his son. When Krishna grows up and learns what business his father runs, he is shocked. The rest of the story explores how Krishna deals with the situation and how his love for Mithra (Shivani Nagaram) plays out.
performances:
Suhas has done a good job and tried to carry the entire film on his shoulders. Naresh's character is crucial but he gets less screen time in the first half. He handles some crucial scenes in the second half well. Shivani Nagaram is decent while Sudharshan stands out for his comedic timing. Vennale Kishore, Harshavaradhan, Ajay Ghosh, Annapurna, Sravanthi Chokkarapu and others are fine.
analysis:
Gopi Atchara is directing Hey Balwanth. He took a sensitive social issue and tried to combine it with humor. This attempt works well in the first half, with well-done comedy scenes and a hilarious passage near the break. The problem arises in the second half where the director tries to mix the emotional scenes with fun.
Although some scenes after the break work, the smooth flow of the first half is missing, and the final emotional section, which deals with the business and why the hero's father took it up and continued it, only partially works.
Positive:
- First half
- A few effective dialogues/scenes
- Pre- and post-interval scenes
Negatives:
- Tackling a sensitive topic with comedy
- Ineffective emotional scenes
- Humor in the second half falls flat
Hey Balwanth Review and Verdict:
Hey Balwanth has an entertaining first half and a good second half. The film works well when it comes to having fun, but it doesn't evoke the strongest emotions it's aiming for. Overall, it is an average film due to its comedy.
