Indian Man Killed in Daylight Shooting at Toronto Mall
A 37-year-old Indian man was shot and killed outside a busy Toronto mall on Sunday afternoon, sending shockwaves through shoppers and workers. Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar was attacked in broad daylight near Woodbine Mall in Etobicoke around 3:30 PM.
Targeted Attack Confirmed
Toronto Police arrived while Chandan was still aliveured, rushing him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, he didn’t survive. Inspector Errol Watson stated investigators believe this was a targeted shooting. This marks Toronto’s third homicide of 2026.
“A shooting like this, especially at a mall, can understandably cause public concern,” Watson told reporters, acknowledging community fears.
Frantic Hunt for Clues
Forensic teams scoured the scene as police appealed for witnesses and security footage. “We’re asking anyone who saw something to say something,” Watson emphasized. Details remained unclear—authorities didn’t confirm how many attackers opened fire or how many shots were fired.
Bullet-Riddled SUV Found
Investigators discovered a white Hyundai SUV parked near the mall entrance, its driver’s side windshield pierced by roughly 10 bullet holes. The vehicle became a key focus of the crime scene investigation.
Chaos Amid Busy Shopping Day
Many shoppers inside the packed mall told reporters they noticed nothing unusual until police swarmed the area. Authorities believe the shooters never entered the building, striking outside during peak shopping hours.
Mall’s Solemn Response
Woodbine Mall spokesperson Andrea Zviedris called it a “tragic situation” in a statement. She confirmed cooperation with police but declined further comment due to the ongoing investigation.
Remembering Chandan Kumar
Chandan Kumar, originally from Karnataka in India, had built a life in Canada over the past six years. Friends and community members expressed grief as news of his death spread, remembering him as a hardworking immigrant far from home.
