Superstar Rajinikanth’s high-octane entertainer Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is all set for a grand theatrical release on August 14. With just weeks to go, Lokesh is fully immersed in the final leg of post-production and release planning. Promotions are expected to begin by the end of July, and from then on, it’s going to be a non-stop ride until release day.
But even before Coolie hits the screens, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s team has already started early work on his next big project — the much-awaited sequel Kaithi 2, starring Karthi. As per sources, this film will be Lokesh’s next immediate focus once Coolie is out. Interestingly, the Kaithi 2 unit is moving ahead with pre-production independently, without waiting for Lokesh to wrap his current commitments.
The script for Kaithi 2 has already been locked, and key roles are said to be finalised. Buzz is strong in the industry that the film might feature a female lead this time — with speculation pointing toward actress Anushka Shetty being considered for the role.
What’s more exciting is that the first shooting schedule of Kaithi 2 is reportedly planned in the dense forests of Karnataka. A dedicated set is being constructed in a forest clearing to blend real wilderness visuals with set design, giving the action sequences a raw and grounded feel. The work is being carried out under the close supervision of Lokesh himself.
Unlike many filmmakers who prefer to begin shooting locally, Lokesh seems to be continuing his unconventional approach. Much like how he launched Leo with an out-of-state schedule before shifting back to Tamil Nadu, he’s said to be adopting a similar shooting pattern for Kaithi 2. The strategy appears to be part of his larger vision for visual and narrative authenticity.
At the same time, Karthi, the male lead, has also completed shooting his other ongoing films – Sardar 2 and Vaa Vaathiyaar. Both of these films are now in post-production and Karthi is expected to complete the dubbing for them before resuming shooting for Kaithi 2.
With everything falling into place — from scripting to scheduling and casting — Kaithi 2 is shaping up to be another power-packed installment in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action universe. Fans of the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) are in for an electrifying sequel that promises even more intensity and thrill than the original.
