Tollywood renowned filmmaker Puri Jagannadh recently discussed Osho’s concept of Homo Novus, a vision for a new type of human being, during a session of Puri Musings. Puri, reflecting on the transformation needed in the world, emphasized that the current world does not require the “old man,” but rather, the creation of a “new man.”
In his discussion, Puri elaborated on Osho’s philosophy, which advocates for a person who embodies joy, music, love, meditation, freedom, and the ability to enjoy every moment of life. This new individual, according to Osho, would live authentically without societal masks and embrace personal values over traditional norms.
Osho’s Homo Novus is envisioned as a global citizen, free from distinctions based on race, religion, or nationality. Puri explained that this individual would think like a rebel, challenging outdated societal ideologies and continually seeking change. “The new person should be seen as both a dancer and a Buddha. This is necessary because our history is filled with wars fought over religion, and the old man cannot be changed. We must create a new man,” he said.
Puri concluded by quoting Osho’s view of Homo Novus as a person who combines the qualities of a poet and a scientist, not seeking destruction, but focusing on creation, life, and love. He believes this concept is crucial for humanity’s inner revolution and evolution.
