Festival seasons often turn out to be money spinners for filmmakers because moviegoers flock theatres in hordes to encourage all types of films. However, the recent Dussehra festival left huge disappointment to trade circles because none of the new releases made big bucks during the holiday season. Except Devara, no other film grabbed the attention of cinephiles. Films like Viswam, Vettaiyan, Maa Nanna Super Hero etc. tanked heavily at the box office.
Now, the attention turns towards the next festival releases. On the eve of Diwali, four Telugu films and two Tamil dubbed movies will hit the screens. Kiran Abbavaram’s multilingual action movie called KA, Dulquer Salman’s Lucky Bhaskar, Nikhil’s Appudo Ippudo Eppudo and Satyadeva’s Zebra are going to contend with dubbed versions of Tamil films like Amaran which has Siva Karthikeyan and Brother which has Jayam Ravi. While many of these films do not star top tier actors, they all come with reasonable expectations, making for a very interesting contest at the box office.
Kiran Abbavaram’s KA and Dulquer Salman’s Lucky Bhaskar are carrying decent buzz among all these films. The visual feast in the teasers and the theatrical trailer and the strong promotional campaign by Kiran Abbavaram is likely to result in good openings for KA. On the other side, Lucky Bhaskar has notable cast and a promising director like Venky Atluri at the helm.
Nikhil’s Appudo Ippudo Eppudo lacks buzz, but the team is banking on positive word of mouth. Satya Dev’s Zebra also hoping for good reviews from critics. As there are no big ticket releases till December, a spate of small films are aiming to strike gold at the box office.
