A fake video clip of Pushpa heroine Rashmika Mandanna created using AI ‘Deep Fake’ software triggered huge panic among netizens after it went viral on social media in November last year. Later it was identified that the woman in the video was Zara Patel, a model.
According to the latest reports, the Delhi police arrested a person from South India who orchestrated this video using the AI software. Though the identity of the accused is not revealed, the Delhi police have confirmed the arrest. Previously, they nabbed four others who uploaded the video on different platforms. Now, the main culprit was caught and brought to Delhi.
This video sent shockwaves across the nation highlighting the aftermaths of abuse of new technologies like AI. It raised widespread debates all over the country and also called for an immediate action plan to curb such unethical practices which can dismantle individual piracy.
After the video triggered massive outrage on social media, an FIR was lodged by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations wing of Delhi police under IPC sections 465 and 469 and also sections 66E and 66C of the IT act, the IFSO unit approached META ( Facebook) to provide the URL that uploaded the video on the internet.
Many celebrities came in support for Rashmika at that time and exhorted the government to take strong action against such acts.
