USA Box Office: Adipurush takes a big start, but…

Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush, a mythological extravaganza based on the Hindu epic Ramayana, took a spectacular opening at the box office this Friday in all territories across the globe. The terrific pre-release buzz generated due to the genre, trailers and songs has resulted in sensational first-day numbers at the domestic level. In Overseas, Adipurush embarked on a good start but fell short of the expectations of trade circles.

As of this writing, Adipurush notched up close to $ 1.45 Million in North America after the end of the first day including Thursday premieres. Due to poor planning, Adipurush failed to breach the prestigious $ 1 M mark from its premieres which was on the cards when the advance sales showed a promising trend. It ended with $ 860K from Thursday premieres. On its first day, the Om Raut directional clocked $ 570K ( Telugu – $ 307K, Hindi – $ 260K) to take the total close to the $ 1.43 M mark. The film will a need super strong weekend to emerge as a safe venture for its buyers.

Considering that Adipurush is a multilingual film with a universal subject, the Overseas numbers are somewhat disappointing for trade circles. Prabhas’ previous film Saaho which was released after Baahubali 2 secured close to $ 1.47 M on the first day. His last film Radheshyam minted $ 1.3 M on the first day. Comparatively, Adipurush is showing a decent trend but it will need to hold on in the coming days.

The overall start for Adipurush at the worldwide box office is very promising as the total gross is close to 140 Crores on its opening day. However, it will need to overcome the underwhelming reviews and poor word of mouth and register impressive numbers from today to be termed a box office winner.
