War 2 Locks IMAX Screens for August 14 Release, Rajinikanth’s Coolie Faces Theatre Clash

Friday, July 11, 2025

War 2, the next installment in the YRF Spy Universe, is being released on a grand scale across five languages — Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. The film is expected to open big, and to ensure maximum reach, Yash Raj Films has reportedly locked over 30 IMAX screens across India exclusively for the film. These premium screens are said to be reserved for two full weeks, giving War 2 a significant edge in terms of screen presence and audience access.

This strategic move, however, has stirred a buzz in the industry, as Coolie, which is also releasing on the same date, is now facing a tough battle for prime screens. According to trade sources, Coolie might not get even a single IMAX screen, as all have already been blocked for War 2. This has sparked debates among fans and industry experts, especially considering the hype surrounding Coolie.

Even though War 2 is handled by Ayan Mukerji, a part of movie buffs feels that Lokesh Kanagaraj is even more popular among fans at the moment, owing to his one-of-a-kind narrative and untarnished record of box office success. Coolie, which features Nagarjuna in a central role as well, has created immense buzz, courtesy Lokesh’s increased reputation as a franchise director.

The real clash between War 2 and Coolie isn’t just about star power — it’s about screen dominance. With YRF having bagged first-class theatres and IMAX screens in major cities, Coolie will find it difficult to get the same level of visibility, particularly in multiplexes.

But both movies have their own huge fan following, and the Independence Day holiday is likely to attract huge audiences to theaters across the country. While War 2 will offer high-energy action and sleek thrills, Coolie will provide a mass entertainer fueled by Rajinikanth’s charismatic screen presence and Lokesh’s competent direction.

As excitement mounts, both actors’ fans await eagerly to know which movie sweeps the holiday box office. One thing’s for sure — August 14 is going to be a festival for movie lovers.
