Taking advantage from dissidence growing among YCP leaders at lower levels, TDP leaders in Guntur are focusing on grabbing Guntur city Mayor seat from the YCP. The term of the present mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu will complete 4 years on March 17. With this, the alliance is ready to move a no-confidence motion against him.
The alliance won all the 6 seats in the recently held standing committee elections. With this, there are chances that the alliance will easily win the mayor’s seat. It has also declared Kovelamudi Ravindra (@Nani) as their Mayor’s candidate.
This decision was taken at a special meeting convened by Union Minister of State Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Saturday night to congratulate those who won the standing committee elections. He expressed confidence that they can win the mayor and two deputy mayor’s seats also on the lines of standing committee members.
On this occasion, Pemmasani also mentioned that TDP leader Kovelamudi Ravindra would be better as the mayor. However, some corporators in the TDP expressed dissatisfaction over Pemmasani’s sudden mention of this. It is reported that some walked out of the meeting hall.
However, the corporators made it clear that they would support whoever the high command suggested as the mayor. In the standing committee elections, the TDP and Jana Sena together received the support of 31 members. With this, securing the mayor’s seat will be a walk.
Meanwhile, Sajila, who won as the Deputy Mayor from YSRCP, joined the TDP before the general elections. Even if she continues, there will be another deputy mayor’s post. There are chances that Jana Sena will get it.
The meeting was attended by MLAs Galla Madhavi, Naseer Ahmed and graduate MLC candidate Alapati Rajendra Prasad. Kovelamudi Ravindra was the constituency incharge from 2019 to 2014 and everyone expected he would be TDP’s MLA candidate. However, due to compulsions of social equations, this seat was given to Galla Madhavi.
