Actor Suriya has urged his fans to refrain from smoking in real life, despite portraying a smoker in a few scenes of his upcoming film Retro. Speaking at the film’s pre-release event held at Lulu Mall in Thiruvananthapuram, Suriya issued a clear message stressing that his on-screen smoking was solely for cinematic purposes.
“Just a small warning — I smoked only because the script required it. Please do not smoke in real life,” Suriya stated. He cautioned that smoking often starts with a single puff or cigarette but can quickly turn into a difficult-to-break addiction. “I do not endorse smoking and I sincerely request you all not to start,” he added.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro marks a departure from the 45 films Suriya has previously worked on. The actor also expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the director on future projects.
Retro stars Suriya alongside Pooja Hegde, Joju George, and Jayaram, with music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
