Story:
Vijay (Sree Vishnu) is a jovial bank employee who’s seething with frustration because he’s single. While his best friend Aravind (Vennela Kishore) is enjoying a relationship, Vijay wishes for love and his friend’s relationship to end so he can spend more time with him. Despite trying to impress many women, Vijay fails in love—until he meets Purva (Ketika Sharma), a sales executive he falls for instantly. But Purva, who doesn’t actually love Vijay, pretends to like him. Meanwhile, Harini (Ivana) genuinely loves Vijay and keeps chasing him, though Vijay doesn’t feel the same. Why doesn’t Vijay like Harini? Why does Purva fake her feelings? Why is Harini so persistent? The film answers these questions as it unravels the twists in this love triangle.
Review:
Single keeps things light and breezy, dishing out a healthy helping of comedy in the form of its engrossing screenplay as well as witty dialogues. Sree Vishnu leads the charge with a top-notch performance, particularly standing tall in the comic scenes of the latter half of the film. Alongside him, Vennela Kishore serves up his special brand of comedic timing, creating an on-screen duo that turns the overall light-heartedness factor higher.
The movie is augmented by the lively rapport between Sree Vishnu, Ketika Sharma, Ivana, and Vennela Kishore, keeping the audience engaged. Both heroines make an impact—Ketika Sharma is endearing in her performance, while Ivana makes a fine impression with glamour and good acting skills. One must mention here the veteran actor Rajendra Prasad, who makes a significant cameo towards the climax, giving the story much-needed gravity. Meanwhile, supporting actors such as VTV Ganesh, Prabhas Sreenu, and Satya provide ample laughs with their well-written, well-delivered roles.
Though Single strikes the right chord in comedy, it’s not flawless. Some scenes in the second half are dragged unnecessarily, and the first half takes a little too much time in setting up characters. The female protagonists’ roles might have been fleshed out more, and the lack of a strong clash between the main protagonists restricts the emotional quotient. Musically, Vishal Chandrasekhar delivers an average background score, but the songs themselves do not quite stay with you.
While these are drawbacks, director Caarthick Raju makes a fun, light-hearted movie that does not pretend to be something more. The cinematography is particularly good with colorful visuals, and the editing is smooth most of the time. Supported by good production values by the producers, Single works as a light entertainer suitable for viewers who seek humor and light viewing.
Overall Single might not be groundbreaking with its storytelling but manages to succeed in providing easy, light entertainment through its humour, performances, and cute moments. With Vennela Kishore and Sree Vishnu at the helm of making us laugh, it’s an effortless, comforting watch for audience members who need to watch an easy, trouble-free film.
