Sharmila says BJP Trying To Take Revenge on southern states Through Delimitation

Friday, March 28, 2025

Joining herself in the nationwide debate going on over delimitation of constituencies that has been sparking severe resistance from the Southern states against the BJP-led Narendra Modi government, APCC chief YS Sharmila Reddy also joined in this debate.

Sharmila made sensational comments accusing that the BJP is trying to take revenge on the southern states through delimitation. She alleged that the BJP is resorting to partisan activities because it has no influence in the southern states. She demanded that the BJP should not act unilaterally on delimitation and should convene an all-party meeting.

On this occasion, APCC Chief Sharmila Reddy makes sensational comments stating that “The BJP is conspiring to reduce the representation of the southern states in Parliament. The words of the Congress party and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy are literally true”.

She deplored that delimitation on the basis of population means doing great injustice to the southern states that practice family planning. After 1971, she pointed out that the population has increased more in North India than in the South. If we take the state of Uttar Pradesh alone as an example, she said that the population has increased from 8 crore to 24 crore.

If the increasing seats are included, she expresses fear that there is a possibility of 222 MPs from both UP and Bihar being represented in the Lok Sabha. At the same time, she said that the number of seats that will increase is only 12 in the two Telugu states. While the number of seats that will increase in the southern states is in the tens, she said that in the northern states, the number is in the hundreds.

Sharmila demanded that the BJP should form an all-party body instead of taking a unilateral decision on delimitation. She strongly protested against AP CM Chandrababu Naidu’s failure to respond to the re-division of constituencies

“It is not appropriate. It is unfair to adopt a evasive approach. If we remain silent about our alliance with the BJP, we should realize that there is no use in holding hands until we are together. We are demanding that Chandrababu Naidu tell us his stance on delimitation,” he added.
