Sankranti 2023 is going to be quite productive for Tollywood trade circles as both Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy took a sensational start at the box office. Despite securing mixed reviews due to familiar and outdated settings, the film managed to storm the box office riding on the star power of both Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna. Tamil film Thegimpu failed to capitalise on the solo release and Varasudu is also set for a decent run during the festival holidays.
Balakrishna’s Veera Simha embarked on a record-breaking start with over 50 Crores gross on its first day. The film emerged as the biggest opening film in Balakrishna’s career quite emphatically beating his previous highest Akhanda by a huge difference. Though the collections dropped on the second day due to weak reviews, the collections picked up on its third day with good advance sales for the next couple of days. The festival season is likely to help recover the investment for the buyers.
