Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, known for her impactful performances across South Indian cinema, has officially forayed into film production with her debut venture Shubham. Produced under her newly launched banner Tralala Moving Pictures, the film is directed by Praveen Kandregula and is slated for a worldwide release on May 9.
Speaking at a press meet ahead of the film’s release, Samantha shared insights into her experience as a first-time producer. Despite her extensive career in front of the camera, she described stepping into production as a humbling and eye-opening journey.
“While acting involves focusing solely on one’s character, producing a film means taking ownership of every detail,” Samantha said. “I realised how crucial every minute and every rupee is during a shoot. If a scene doesn’t go as planned or unforeseen issues arise, it can lead to significant time and financial losses. Sitting in the producer’s chair has taught me the real weight of responsibility in filmmaking.”
She noted that in the past, she viewed reshoots lightly from an actor’s perspective. “Now, I understand the burden they place on time management and budgets. Delays increase location expenses, crew payments, and logistics costs. This has been a major learning curve,” she added.
The actress-producer also emphasized her commitment to promoting new talent. Drawing parallels with her own career beginnings under director Gautham Menon, Samantha stated that Shubham features newcomers Shreya, Shravanthi, and Shalini in lead roles. She lauded their performances and dedication to the project.
The film, written by Vasanth, is described as a social satire revolving around the world of television serials. Samantha affirmed that the story remains the central focus, adding, “We invested only what was essential for the narrative. There’s no unnecessary extravagance.”
Positioned as a clean family entertainer, Shubham is scheduled for release on May 9. Samantha expressed confidence that the film will resonate with audiences and stated that the experience gained through this project would prove valuable for her future ventures as a producer.
