Nara Lokesh Hits Back At YS Jagan Over WhatsApp Governance Criticism

Sunday, February 16, 2025

Minister Nara Lokesh recently took a swipe at former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over his criticism of the WhatsApp Governance initiative launched by the Andhra Pradesh government. Lokesh highlighted the irony of Jagan questioning a system he once claimed not to use, especially considering his past statements about not being familiar with phones. While in Delhi meeting Union Ministers, Lokesh responded to the ongoing YCP’s critiques of the WhatsApp-based governance system, which aims to make essential services more accessible to citizens in the state.

WhatsApp Governance: Revolutionizing Public Services in AP
Andhra Pradesh’s innovative ‘Mana Mitra’ program, introduced on October 31, allows residents to access 161 essential public services directly through WhatsApp. This easy-to-use system has quickly earned praise across India for its convenience. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also lauded the initiative, offering constructive feedback on how it could be further optimized for better implementation and increased revenue.

Lokesh’s Vision for Streamlined Governance
During his Yuvagalam Padayatra, Lokesh took note of the challenges students faced in accessing various government services and certificates. This experience led him to conceptualize WhatsApp Governance, intending to simplify the process and make it accessible at everyone’s fingertips. Once in power, Lokesh pushed for this vision to become a reality, which was successfully implemented. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu later praised Lokesh for his foresight in bringing this idea to life.

Political Tensions Over the WhatsApp Governance Idea
Despite its success, YCP tried to take credit for the WhatsApp Governance initiative, claiming it was part of Jagan’s government’s vision. To reinforce this narrative, they launched a social media campaign, presenting the system as Jagan’s achievement. This political move led to friction between the TDP and YCP.

Lokesh Reacts to YCP’s Claim
Responding to these claims, Lokesh sarcastically questioned how Jagan, who had previously made public statements about not using a phone, could have possibly come up with the idea of WhatsApp Governance. He also addressed the criticism from YCP that the system could lead to data theft, firmly denying these allegations. In a bold challenge, Lokesh offered a ₹10 crore reward to anyone who could prove that data theft was happening through the WhatsApp Governance system.

Furthermore, Lokesh reminded the public of similar allegations made by YCP in the past, which were never proven during their five years in office.

Rising Tensions: TDP vs. YCP
As the WhatsApp Governance initiative continues to receive nationwide recognition, political tensions between TDP and YCP are escalating. With Lokesh’s defense of the system and the YCP’s ongoing criticisms, it seems this political battle over governance innovation will continue to heat up.
