After scoring a hat-trick of hits with “Love Today,” “Dragon,” and “Dude,” Pradeep Ranganathan has once again come to the audience with the director's film LIK Vignesh Shivan. The film suffered several delays before finally hitting theaters today. Here is our LIK test.

Story

The film is set in the year 2040 and has Surya (SJ Suryah), who founded a company called LIK (Love Insurance Kompany) with an app that analyzes relationships and tells what real love is and what isn't. Dheema (Kriti Shetty) is a girl who is completely addicted to mobile phones and LIK app and Vasu (Pradeep Ranganathan) comes from a place where social media or cell phones are strictly prohibited.

Vasu falls in love with Dheema at first sight and the rest of the story is about how Surya and LIK app affect his love journey with Dheema.

performances

Pradeep Ranganathan And SJ Suryah perform decently, and they could have done better with more effective characterization or writing. Kriti Shetty looks cute, but her character doesn't have much scope. Seeman, Shah Ra, Gowri G Kishan, Yogi Babu and others are fine.

LIK review: analysis

director Vignesh Shivan took an interesting setup of a futuristic story set in 2040. The idea is interesting and the satires about modern relationships, lifestyles, overuse of social media and addiction work well for a while in the first half. But that's where it all ended.

To make a compelling love story, the film needed two opposite characters falling in love or attracted to each other. Here is the character of Vasu, played by Pradeep RanganathanHe is a normal guy who will do anything to win his love. It's like a normal character with no special quality. Joining the female lead is Dheema, played by Kriti Shetty seems more stupid and superficial than sweet or a misguided girl who gets lost in the company of gadgets or apps.

The main villain, played by SJ Suryah seems poor as there is no entertainment factor and also poses no threat value to the proceedings. There are a few funny moments that work based on his performance, including a dance routine near the climax, but his acting skills are underutilized in this character.

There are some entertaining parts in the first half and Dheema Dheema's song is the best part of the film. Although not much happens in this phase, the intermission scene raises hopes for the second half. But apart from a few comedy scenes here and there, the action in the second half seems boring or tedious.

There's an attempt to inject some emotion near the climax, but even that doesn't quite work as the fight starts well but drags on and ends with a message.

Positive

  • Main plot
  • Comedy scenes in the first half
  • Anirudh's music

Negatives

  • No emotional impact
  • Things go downhill in the second half
  • Preaching scenes
  • Love Track lacks spark

Final verdict

Vignesh Shivan LIK tries to present an entertaining love story in a futuristic setup, but aside from some truly hilarious moments, Pradeep Ranganathan Efforts and Anirudh's decent music make the film a dull outing.
