KTR Fears Center May Declare Hyderabad As Union Territory!

Monday, October 14, 2024

Sensing that after changing their party TRS name into BRS, they not only failed to evolve as a national political party, but also lost `sentiment connection’ with the people of Telangana. It was clearly established in the recent assembly elections after people voted them out.

Now during Lok Sabha polls, BRS leadership is making sincere efforts to identify issues that can emotionally evoke people’s response and makes them close them. Party chief and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is actively involved in mobilising farmers’ support to the party by accusing Revanth Reddy government’s failure in fulfilling their poll promises.

During his election campaign KCR visited fields, interacting with farmers and recalling his ambitious efforts for improving irrigation and agriculture productivity in the state. To some extent he is succeeding in mobilising farmers’ support.

In his party, BRS executive president K T Rama Rao seems to be raising a crucial emotional issue on Telangana people’s bondage towards state capital Hyderabad city. Since some time, BRS leaders have been accusing that the BJP-led government at the center is plotting to declare Hyderabad as Union Territory.

As BJP had earlier withdrawn statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two union territories, BRS is expecting people will respond to their call. In an emotional appeal, KTR expressed fears that after June 2, if BJP elected again at the center, Hyderabad may be declared as Union Territory.

It may be recalled that entire Telangana development depends upon resources mobilised from Hyderabad city. It constitutes over Four Lok Sabha seats and 28 Assembly seats. KTR cautioned there was a possibility of the BJP-led Centre announcing Hyderabad as union territory after June 2.

As part of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, Hyderabad was made the common capital for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a period of 10 years. By June 2 this year, that 10 year period would be over. So, the Congress may announce Hyderabad as a union territory after June 2, he said, adding that there were enough indications of this.

KTR asserted that it was not possible for the Congress to foil the BJP-led Centre’s plans and only the BRS could prevent such moves by raising its voice in the Parliament if it had enough MPs.  So, it was necessary to elect more BRS MPs to prevent the Centre from such moves, Rama Rao said while participating in a party meeting on Sunday.
