Gang Violence Hits Indian Businesses in London

Recent attacks in Wembley and Harrow have left Indian-origin shopkeepers and restaurant owners feeling unsafe. Gangs, thought to be of Somali background, are targeting these businesses, causing serious damage and spreading fear.

Manek Chowk Restaurant Vandalized Twice

Manek Chowk, an Indian restaurant on Ealing Road, was hit by masked gangs on March 5 and 7. Videos show men wearing thobes and face coverings rushing in, smashing things, and making a huge mess. Tables and chairs were turned over, food was everywhere, and property was ruined.

More Attacks on Local Shops

Other stores got hit too. At Panesar Food and Wine on Harrow Road, a gang emptied fruit and vegetable boxes, threw them on the ground, and stepped on them. One person watching said, “They wreck the places, record it, and take off. Seems like they’re getting paid to do it.”

In another scary event, a Gujarati man was stabbed on Ealing Road and had to go to the hospital emergency room.

Leaders Speak Out and Police React

MP Bob Blackman talked about this in Parliament. He mentioned an attack on Holi celebrations in Harrow where about 20 people tried to hurt over 1,000 peaceful revelers. Only one person has been arrested so far, and he asked the police to explain their actions.

A Brent Council spokesperson said any violence against businesses is totally wrong and won’t be allowed. They asked anyone with info or videos to call the police right away.

Shopkeepers Scared and Seeking Help

Business owners are really worried. One shopkeeper saw three men from Daman and Diu get beaten in the toilets during an attack. Gangs often run away before police show up, leaving shops with thousands of pounds in damage.

Do you think local authorities are doing enough to protect these shopkeepers? Many in the community are pushing for better safety measures to stop these attacks.
