All the 10 MLAs who defected from BRS to Congress in the wake of the notices given by the Supreme Court and the Assembly Secretary on the party defections met on Wednesday at the house of MLA Danam Nagender. Government advisor Vem Narender Reddy participated in this meeting.
They mainly discussed how to proceed legally in the party defections issue. Similarly, there was a discussion on the reply to be given by the Telangana Assembly Secretary to the Supreme Court. All the MLAs are planning to go to Delhi immediately and hold consultations there.
There are reports that they have also decided to file a petition together in the Supreme Court on legal grounds. MLAs who defected from the party, Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkat Rao, Kadiyam Srihari, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, Kale Yadayya, Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy, Prakash Goud, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Arikepudi Gandhi, and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, participated in this meeting.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Assembly Secretary issued notices on Tuesday to the MLAs who won from the BRS party and joined the Congress. The Assembly Secretary, who issued the notices as per the orders of the Supreme Court, asked them to give a written reply on the party change issue.
The defected MLAs, who received notices from the Speaker’s office, asked for some more time to explain. It is known that the BRS party was defeated in the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections. As a result, some BRS MLAs resigned from the party and joined the Congress party.
BRS approached the Telangana High Court over the defections of the MLAs. Since the High Court did not give a favorable verdict, BRS went to the Supreme Court. To this end, the country’s highest court, which took up the hearing on the BRS petition, ordered the Speaker’s office to issue notices to the defected MLAs.
Following the orders of the Supreme Court, the Telangana Assembly Secretary issued notices to the defected MLAs on Tuesday. The MLAs were alerted as the notice stated that they should give an explanation as to why they should not be disqualified.
