Thursday, June 19, 2025

The court has remanded journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao for 14 days in the case of making obscene comments against women in the capital Amaravati. The Mangalagiri court said that it will remand him in judicial remand till the 24th of this month and he was shifted to Guntur District Jail.

Meanwhile, Kommineni was arrested on Monday in the case of making obscene comments against women in Amaravati. Another accused in the same case, Krishnam Raju, has gone absconding. The police are searching for him. Kommineni was arrested by the Thullur police in Hyderabad on Monday. From there, the police took him to the Nallapadu police station in Guntur via Vijayawada.

After undergoing medical tests at the Guntur GGH, the police brought Kommineni to the court on Tuesday. At GGH, he told the doctors that he was having heart problems and urinary problems. A 2D echo test was also done regarding the heart. Everything turned out to be fine in the tests.

Kidney specialists conducted an ultrasound scan. It was found that there was an infection in the urethra. They gave him the necessary medicines to reduce the infection. After hearing the arguments of the government and the lawyers of the accused, the court gave a verdict ordering a 14-day remand to Kommineni.

During a discussion program organized on Sakshi Channel, journalist Krishnam Raju made extremely derogatory comments about the Amaravati region and the women there. Journalist Krishnam Raju spoke in a hushed tone, saying that Amaravati is not the capital of the gods, but the capital of prostitutes.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports on alleged derogatory remarks made by journalist V.V.R. Krishnam Raju against Amaravati women during a TV debate. Referring to Amaravati as a “capital of prostitutes” is an outrageous insult to women farmers NCW strongly condemns such unacceptable and inciting statements in public discourse.

The Chairperson Smt Vijaya Rahatkar has written a letter to the DGP of Andhra Pradesh directing him a swift and time-bound investigation, and strict action against Mr. Raju under relevant laws. A detailed action taken report has been sought from the concerned authorities within 3 days.
