While Megastar Chiranjeevi continues to dominate headlines with his ongoing projects, one of his lesser-discussed but critically acclaimed films, Aapadbandhavudu (1992), has recently resurfaced in public conversation — particularly for its unique behind-the-scenes production details. Directed by legendary filmmaker K. Viswanath, the film starred Meenakshi Seshadri and earned praise for its emotional depth and artistic sensibilities.
Although Aapadbandhavudu was largely an art-house film, the makers included a high-octane bullfight scene to appeal to Chiranjeevi’s fan base. The sequence, involving clay pots, became a logistical challenge during filming. The production house, Poornodaya Movie Creations, reportedly spent ₹50,000 to source around 6,000 clay pots. The fight scene took over four days to shoot, with broken pots being instantly replaced. By the end of filming, there was a widespread shortage, with the art department sourcing pots from across Madras and surrounding villages to meet demand.
Released on October 9, 1992, the film earned Chiranjeevi the Nandi Award for Best Actor. Other accolades included Best Dialogue Writer for Jandhyala, Best Art Direction for B. Chalam and Arun B. Godwankar, and Best Choreographer for Bhushan Lakhandri.
On the career front, Chiranjeevi is currently filming Vishwambhara, a socio-fantasy drama, and an action entertainer under the direction of Anil Ravipudi. Additionally, he is set to collaborate with director Srikanth Odela for a high-octane action thriller, with actor Nani producing the project. An official announcement regarding this new venture has already been made.
