The investigation into Andhra Pradesh liquor scam has picked up pace, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) ready to arrest several senior officials who shared a close association with the erstwhile government’s underhand operations. Prominent among them are Krishna Mohan Reddy and IAS officers Dhanunjaya Reddy and Govindappa.
These officials had moved petitions in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, seeking anticipatory bail to prevent arrest. But their pleas were strictly rejected. The court clearly stated that anticipatory bail would not be granted at this stage and stressed that no relief would be given till a decision is taken by the government on the issue.
The SIT has already detained Raj Kasireddy and a few others in relation to the scam. The investigators are now trying to dig out more information from these detentions, which may possibly result in more detentions.
With the court ruling and no relief from the accused officials in the offing, there is a big chance of them being arrested. The next date for hearing of the case has been fixed on May 7. As the probe continues to unravel, the arrested officials now find themselves on shaky ground with legal action around the corner against them.
